Joan Sansum
Sadly it is with regret that we have to record the passing of another of our “elder states ladies”.
Anyone who has joined the Island in the last 5 years would not have known the Joan Sansum of old – indeed, if they knew her at all.
Joan was a true character and if you listened to her she could have moved up from Cornwall a couple of months ago, her accent was still so strong.
Joan had the most wonderful sense of humour and was so absolutely full of fun.
She could bowl too; she bowled for the County although the last time she did so was quite some time back.
Joan’s last years were spent caring for John until he passed on about 2 years ago. During that time Joan did make the occasional trip to the Island but didn’t really take part in too many games.
Following John’s death, Joan did not enjoy the best of health and her visits dwindled.
Joan’s funeral took place on Monday 26th October and a fitting number of Islanders were there to wish her a fond farewell.
Our sincere condolences to all her family
Joan passed away on Tuesday 13th of October 2009.
